We want to know what your current situation looks like relative to referrals in HIFIS, and how big of a priority this is for you.

This project is looking at two aspects of referrals. The goal is to introduce functionality into HIFIS that will allow for both of the following:
Tracking external referrals (to agencies outside of HIFIS); and
Tracking internal transfers of service (to agencies inside HIFIS)
We’re thinking about things like having an incoming/outgoing referrals list where you can see all the referrals made and their completion rates, and maybe even including the option to send service details with the referral (e.g. case notes), or see that a referral was converted into a shelter stay/housing placement/case file. Exciting stuff!

ACRE Consulting (that’s me) is very interested in making sure HIFIS is improved for communities, and the HIFIS Development Team doesn’t always know what communities need or want. In the past, we’ve found success by identifying a big gap in HIFIS, gathering representatives from a whole bunch of communities and user groups, and coming up with a proposal for a new module or significant change to HIFIS. In general, the HIFIS Development Team appreciates that the consultation has already happened and the proposal is well thought out. So far, we’ve been successful in adding the Coordinated Access module and the Diversion module, and we’re hopeful that a new Supportive Housing module will be coming soon.
Who pays for this? The project is mostly funded by the Canadian Alliance to End Homelessness, who also has an interest in advocating on behalf of communities for HIFIS improvement.
